An Apple a Day

Ever see the commericals for Mac computers with ‘Mac Guy’ and ‘PC Guy?’ I recently saw one where PC guy sings a christmas jingle about buying a PC instead of a Mac. It was awesome! Although these commercials are supposed to make you want to buy a Mac, I actually like PC guy better, he always makes me laugh. Never once have one of these commericals convinced me that I wanted a Mac, I guess Mac Guy just doesn’t do it for me, he’s really not that funny; most of the time he just stands there while PC Guy entertains. PC Guy, on the other hand, is pretty dang funny, I think i will keep my Windows PC computer. Thanks PC Guy!

Embrace Self-Promotion

For the past few days I haven’t posted. Currently, I am working on two separate posts about Seth Godin and his newest Web 2.0 platform, Squidoo. I find it difficult to write about Seth Godin and Squidoo because of the extraordinary amount of free information online about Seth, his ideas, and his work.

Feedblitz sends a new post from Seth’s blog to my inbox everyday. I just finished listening to the audiobook of his new published work, The Dip. He also has several free e-books to download; I have read about 3 of them so far. I’m only halfway through his 197 page ebook, “Unleashing the Ideavirus” (which is simply a free online version of his published book by the same name).  Moreover, he has many useful presentations available to watch online, one of which he gave at Google. Seth’s presentation style is noteworthy in itself because he only uses pictures, not Powerpoint slides, to convey his ideas. In fact, he wrote an ebook about his presentation style four years ago entitled, “Really Bad Powerpoint,” which he reproduced on his blog in January 2007 for people who missed the advice the first time.

I have also recently finished related material including the audiobook, Brazen Careerist by Penelope Trunk (based on her blog by the same name), and I am halfway through an audiobook recommended by Penelope, Brag! The Art of Tooting Your Own Horn Without Blowing It by Peggy Klaus.

If I have learned anything through reading, listening to, and studying all of the above material over the last few weeks, it is this: embrace self-promotion.

Be remarkable. Be exceptional. Then let others know what makes you exceptional and make them believe. Tell them in a blog, hand out business cards, speak at an event, send out press releases, get involved in organizations, head committees, write a book, write an article, comment on other blogs - just make yourself known and your ideas heard.

Seth, Penelope, and Peggy have made careers out of self-promotion. Arguably, we all do.

MAKE MONEY ONLINE RIGHT NOW

Being really new to this whole blog scene, I feel like that early 30’s something guy who just recently started shopping at Hot Topic and listens to the new Good Charlotte record. He’s just trying to fit in and be cool like everyone else, but at the same time, he has absolutely no idea what he is doing. That said, I have sort of been doing research on how to drive people to our new blog here, and how to make that oh so sweet cash flow come in too.

What I realized is that to make money online, you need people to come to your website, and one way to do that is to talk to other people who have blogs and trade links and whatnot. This is where my problem came in.

Everyone and their mother’s blog is about how to make money online. One guy does it right and now 70,000 people copy him. If all I wanted to do with a blog was learn how to make money online, why wouldn’t I just go to the ONLY guy who is doing it right? Not the 70,000 other bloggers who are trying their damndest and not getting anywhere near what they had hoped for.

Do I want to make money on this blog? YES OF COURSE I DO. Is my blog about making money? NO OF COURSE NOT. I hate when people bite off someone else’s style. Especially when those people are un-interesting, talentless jerks who have nothing decent at all to write about. They spend their time writing about ways to make money on their blog and it isn’t even working for them. I am getting to angry. I need something to calm me down. Where is my “magic eye” poster?

Sweet! A dinosaur!

Those who can, do. Those who can’t, blog.

With all that said.. the new Good Charlotte cd is pretty decent actually.
